With how many questions I get about Trump in this country I’m going to have to start claiming to be Canadian now. Fuck. I hate this. I hate this especially for the people of Ukraine. Fuck fuck fuck.
The state visit invitation is only worth it if the US is willing to provide security guarantee for Ukraine, but today there are already rumours that the US will immediately withdraw all military support for Ukraine. Therefore Starmer needs to withdraw the state visit invitation. We cannot permit a literal Putin stooge to receive the unprecedented gesture of a second state visit.
Good stuff.
Now is the time to align ourselves more closely with our european allies.
Trump has unequivocally pulled the mask off and shown himself to be a Russian puppet on the world stage. For at least the next 4 years, the USA are not our allies, and we must take all steps necessary to stand independently of them. They’re a huge threat to us, and to all other western nations.
If the USA doesn’t like being kept at arms length from the rest of the west, I’d strongly encourage them to research the basis for their second amendment rights.

I don’t really have anything to say about the story but I was convinced the source was called ‘reddit chadvertiser’.
We have to consider the US as now not an ally we can rely on. I think the US is still an ally, but what Vance and Trump will do from one week to the next is entirely unknown.
So we have to throw ourselves into Europe, and hope they now have the guts to do what really needs to be done, and just hope the vacuum Trump feels pulls his ego into it. And hopefully Vance just manages to get sidelined before he says more stupid shit.
So even after Trump was corrected publicly by Macron and then Starmer about the $350 billion figure, he again repeated the lie today as if that had never happened. He really is disgusting and so is his pathetic lapdog Vance. The way they ambushed Zelensky today and sought to publicly humiliate him is utterly reprehensible. Trump has the emotional maturity and intelligence of a toddler and is lashing out at everyone, everyone except Putin that is who he remains in reverence of. I hate that the UK is so closely tied to the US and can’t easily walk away from them, at least not yet. But we must work quickly with our European partners to break free as soon as we can.
Trump and Vance are evil, opportunistic bullies. Amoral, ambush predators and scavengers. The Transatlantic alliance is dead, NATO is dead, Pax Americana is dead. Europe needs to re-arm and step up, and fast, or it will be picked apart by Trump, Putin, Xi, and Modi. Simple as that.
You can’t be neutral when dealing with a fascist dictatorship. If nothing else, they’ll demand your unwavering loyalty and subservience.
As…. (I’ll be generous here) valiant as Starmer’s attempt at diplomacy with Trump was, he’s going to be forced to either surrender to Trump and abandon Europe, or vice versa. There is not going to be any middle ground.
I’ve been worried Starmer would flip towards America, his actions have been very much geared towards emulating elements of Trumpism. (slashing aid budget, giving away our national IP to big tech AI, coming away from his visit having “won” without us knowing what’s been promised / conceded, etc)
I’d hope “unwavering support for Ukraine” is genuine and indicates we’re not lurching towards supporting fascism.
I wonder how long he’ll maintain the hard man stance. My guess is that he won’t rescind the invite and will be back to crawling up Trump’s arse in no time, all for the opportunity to host some data centres and bring in some healthcare providers and chlorinated chicken.

Today’s disgraceful ambush has made it abundantly clear that we (Europe) are on our own. We need to find peace with the fact that another European war is now very likely. If we don’t take this for what this moment is – giving Putin the go ahead to expand his ambitions – then we only have ourselves to blame for not being ready.
To any Americans lurking here: I know a lot of you probably didn’t vote for Trump and are equally as disgusted but you must now stand up for your beliefs and do something to defend your democracy. If Trump has so little respect for a world leader it isn’t hard to imagine how little respect and how much contempt he has for the rest of you. Democracy only dies when you let it. Will you be okay telling your children or future children that you stood by and did nothing whilst the US fell? Is this the America you were told to believe in?
Starmer has always stuck to his guns and never changes his mind or his policies at the drop of a hat so that’s quite a relief.

As far as I’m concerned Trump shouldn’t be welcome in the UK after how he treated a Wartime President today. All the men who died fighting someone with a foreign policy similar to Trump 80 years ago would be disgusted at seeing what’s unfolding in the West.
I didn’t vote labour and I don’t really like how they have handled things at home. However one thing I am certain. We need to unite behind them on this issue. It’s far too important. We also need to increase defence spending immediately to at least 3% of GDP. It may mean sacrifices, it may mean tax rises but it’s too important.

There should be a petition to get Starmer to put his money where his mouth is and remove Trump’s invitation for a second state visit. Have Zelensky round instead. The King should not meet with someone as rude as Trump and a meeting with Zelensky would be more useful.
That doesn’t mean anything, with you lickspittling to Trump through this meeting, giving him another state visit at once, basically just telling Trump that he can just walk all over us. For it to mean anything, you have to cancel the state visit, and show Trump that he will be isolated.
Vance’s comments seemed to be what really triggered things – and then what escalated them too. He looked and sounded completely out of his depth in that meeting – with potentially disastrous consequences. The man is not fit for the office.
Trump initially seemed more measured by comparison – like he was on the verge of telling Vance to be quiet – and I was initially willing to give him benefit of the doubt that he is actually trying to just close the issue – but then he lost his rag too, I think purely because he felt he had to back up Vance and because Z kept talking.
Zelenskyy explaining that he wants something more concrete than what US is offering… makes me wonder why they were doing this all in front of the cameras. Surely it should have been their negotiators behind the scenes getting a deal ready (if Zelenskyy actually wants the deal) and then just wheel out the leaders to sign what they’ve already agreed? Otherwise why bother with the whole thing? Just seemed like a colossal waste of time for all involved.
