Monroe County, NY. Definitely Italian. I’m German, but regularly use “Mingia” in my daily vernacular.

Surprised Windham’s French
I knew they have the highest proportion of Quebecois ancestry in CT but I wasn’t expecting it to be the plurality (at least according to this)

Expected way more red. Interesting.

sigh. i have lived in brown, blue and yellow counties but used to live in a grey (polish) county.
no matter where i move to, it looks like chances are slim i will find polish sausage as good as that found in the grey county i grew up in.

Geography majors, help a brother out, where is the Czech spot in the US?

A fun factoid, but that area of Ohio being Italian is because during the heyday of organized crime, it’s the halfway point between New York and Chicago.

I’m suprised there is not a county of Czech in Oklahoma.

Well this certainly has to include Hispanic whites too, considering Spanish and Portuguese is on there.

Scotch-Irish? My line is full of Scotts on both sides. I had my doubts until DNA testing by multiple family members in both lines proved it out.

I had grown up with so many people with Italian ancestry in NYC/Westchester/Long Island/Jersey. It was only when I moved away that I realized, “holy shit, that was just a tri-state area thing, I guess”. At least THAT prevalence.

Interesting, I’m assuming this is the largest single group? I live in western WA which is heavily Scandinavian. Be curious to see this by regional ancestry.

Funny enough, I don’t think I’ve ever met a white guy that was strictly or of partial English descent despite the map telling me how widespread it is

Shout-out to the Danes in Utah.
I’ll call them European Americans until I’m dead
Oh look, this gets reposted again
And again I’d remind people that this is self-reported data
Most common ancestry* right?
This map looked completely different [when you posted it 8 months ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1ebhqa8/most_common_selfreported_ethnicity_of_white/) – what changed?
