The online safety act is turning out to be a complete farce, shutting down small forums blogs and games while do nothing about large social media it was supposedly created to police.

A few games I used to play closed down a while back to due online regulations. Eu and the UK regulates and doesn’t innovate, no surprise our markets and productivity is flat.

Why canβt they just host it on some Asian server? π
Guess potential legal threats are too much for a one man passion project π

The online space in the UK is set to become as bleak as the weather.

That thing has been going a very long time.

Remember this next time someone says “why don’t we have a home grown UK or EU social media platform”.

Out of curiosity can someone explain how Urban Dead would violate the act?

The online censorship bill has nothing to do with safety and is only about stopping political opposition to the government’s extreme commie narrative.

Government censorship doesn’t make anyone safer and it messes everyone up.

I just logged onto my account on there for the first time in about 15 years. I’m amazed it and it’s wiki is still running!

There’s a lot of noise like this around, but really, the Act does not place requirements that onerous on providers. You basically need a moderation team, a point of contact, promise to take down bad content quickly and have a mechanism to report it. Any online game with a chat function should have these things already.
Unless you think your game is widely used to disburse terrorist manuals and child porn, but in that case, it’s probably a good thing it gets shut down.
