Given that we don’t know the mitigation, and never will, there’s not much to comment on here, tbh.

‘The boy’s mother, who was sitting next to him in court, said his income was his pocket money’

      Wonder where his dad was.

£200 pound total. £100 to each guard within the year. What a fucking joke for threatening someone with a knife.

Why don’t we go back to putting people in stocks in a public square

    4. > He was given a nine-month referral order and told to pay £100 compensation to each of the security guards within a year.

      > The boy’s mother, who was sitting next to him in court, said his income was his pocket money.

      > The judge told him: “Bearing in mind your pocket money, I’m satisfied that compensation of £100 each, £200 in total would be appropriate.”

Very kind judge. The boy’s a very lucky git.

    5. Isn’t this basically armed robbery? Seems a little light with that as a factor.

    6. I know our prisons are full but can we not force them into 6 months of daily litter picking at 5am or something?

Plant trees, fill potholes, feed homeless people. Literally anything which is net good for society as a whole but the government can’t seem to get in check – force criminals to do it at the crack of dawn every day in lieu of longer sentences

    7. It was an armed robbery.

If they are old enough to pull knives, they are old enough to do the time.

    8. I’m thinking a larger fine for the not-present parent would also have been appropriate

    9. This disgusting robbery that’s all over YouTube etc for all to see, the best a judge can inflict on the offender is your not buying new trainers this month, your paying £200 in compensation to the security guards you and your mates with knive(s) terrified while you looted an Apple store in broad daylight and caused customers to flee.

No wonder faith in our justice system is at an all time low & I can’t speak for elsewhere but there’s a crimewave in full effect local to me, and the police have been absolutely shocking.

Why does the headline make it sound outrageous? This lad this kid went in a shop and nicked £50k worth of stuff!

If it was your house that was robbed of £50k most readers would want them hung

When people rob from companies they think it’s a victimless crime, guess what the company protects its margin by raising costs

      The poor apple store 😭

Glad the guards stepped aside and no physical damage was done

The simple solution where an offender has no real income would be to extract it from the guardian or make it so that when / if the offender starts earning later in life or gets benefits it is removed from that.

What an angel at the age of 14 – I am sure he would become a good man after his.

And only 10 quid to each security guard? Disrespectful.

No wonder why the gangs are flourishing

    14. So no real punishment then. If he is part of a gang stealing £50k worth of iPhones then his income is not limited to his pocket money.

His mum is lying and this is no deterrent to him carrying on with what is almost certainly a patten of behaviour.

I agree with not automatically putting kids in prison when they do something like this. But its not stealing sweets from the supermarket this was intended to make them a lot of money selling the phones on. He should at the very least be getting significant community service for this.

£100 compensation is a bit of a kick in the teeth for the security guard isn’t it? How come compensation for this sort of thing is set at what is (very) affordable?

    16. NativitasDominiNix on

He was part of an organised criminal gang that was robbing an iPhone store,
pocket money might not be his only source of income

    17. Just to recap,

If he got away with it = £50k of profit,
      If he’s stopped = £100 fine

Sure is a mystery why crime is sky rocketing

    18. Better idea, Lock him the fuck up for a couple of years.

Mercy to the criminal is cruelty to the innocent.

    19. They should pass a law where they start fining the parents for the crimes their children comit, then perhaps they would start to take an interest in what their kids are up to.

Interesting that parents get fined for taking their kids out of school to go on a family holiday, but their kids can commit serious armed robbery and somehow it’s got nothing to do with the parents.

    20. And he has to go to his room straight after school every day!

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with this country’s justice system? Run around with a gang, robbing stores, and you just get told you’re a very naughty boy, please don’t do it again? All he’s learnt from this is that the law is a soft touch.

For cases like this the entire adult sentence should be imposed, but this way: the juvenile is given the juvenile sentence. The remainder of the adult sentence minus the juvenile sentence should be served by the parents or guardian.

    22. You withhold a kid’s pocket money when they don’t tidy up their room. Feels like armed robbery should carry a somewhat higher punishment.

    23. And because of idiotic decisions like this, there’s no actual deterrent and so youth crime carries on growing, and then becomes adult crime. As far as I’m concerned, anybody who is part of any enterprise that uses a knife in a crime gets an automatic in-jail time of 3-5 years.
