Absolute insanity. We are throwing out 70 years of scientific progress on the whims of an unelected bureaucrat.

NASA seems redundant when you already have SpaceX. Efficiency!

This article feels like a nothing burger. They are laying off 23 people with a good chuck of them being part of that D.E.I. arm (tbh writing was on the wall for this, Trump campaigned on striking down these initiatives). Another office is getting impacted, but the article makes VERY broad comments about its function.
Other than alluding to future RIFs was anything significant to NASAs forward work really impacted? Nothing about Gateway, SLS or budget really mentioned here.
Edit: It seems like the masses think that I don’t give a shit about the well-being of those laid off. I genuinely hope those who get impacted find jobs. My point is that this article is reframing these D.E.I. layoffs as some grand plan to shut down NASA.

Relax homies. It’s 23 people total;
“The employees of those offices, 23 in total, will be laid off.”

Is the closure of the office of the Chief Scientist merely an effort to fire an accomplished woman? This is insane.

If people in this thread realized what NASA has become they’d feel differently. The agency has become more of a mode of funneling money to contractors than a mode for true air and space research. There are good parts, of course, but they are the first to get cut in order to pay the contractors exorbitant prices to find the 3rd best solution, then the 2nd best solution, just so they can ask for more money to try what they knew the best solution was going to be in the first place. The JPL, the one part of NASA that’s been absolutely crushing it, has been undergoing massive cuts for over the last year. We’ve cut and sold many NASA projects headed by GS employees just to have private companies take them over the finish line and sell the tech back to NASA for massive profits. NASA has the same problem as the DoD when it comes to mission focus vs appeasing contractors/Congress. I know it will be unpopular to say this, but NASA absolutely needs to cut the grift and focus on the mission or people, even space-enthusiasts like myself, will gladly watch its budget be decimated year after year. Cut the grift/stagnation and focus on the mission. I want to see progress.

I get that this sucks for those people but don’t buy in to the sensationalism. NASA employs over eighteen thousand people. 23 of which were laid off. A grand total of 0.001% of their workforce….

Boy, I really preferred not being a complete joke of a nation. I enjoyed my tax dollars going to further scientific research. I enjoyed living in a country that was doing a ton of good science work
Instead, we get to live in an absolute joke of a nation because of the idiots and apathetic people that make up our electorate. It’s very difficult to accept
