Banning legal e bikes because illegal DIY ones from temu catch fire is like banning all cars because people are driving around in non registered ones

Seems like a no-brainer, we just need station staff to feel safe challenging the people who want to travel with them. That would mean more staff at gates or BTP involvement, because some can get a bit lairy with their self entitlement.

although it may seem a knee-jerk reaction, I can empathize with the staffers who don’t want to deal with a toxic smoke fire in a confined area.

Frankly I’m all for banning anything that has the potential to explode in a tiny tunnel with limited ease of escape, but that’s just me. Also e bike fans, not sure if you know this but you could just buy a conventional bike if you’re insisting on bringing some form of transport on to public transport, using your legs to peddle is, I’m aware unthinkable but nobody wants to be fried by your cheap Chinese knock off crap.

I thought bikes were already banned from the underground? Evidently not

Why the need to take the bike on the tube? Ride the damned thing on the roads.
Good, I don’t need to be on a train with the cheapest, untested lithium battery that’s held on by a piece of chewing gum and fairy tears that’s been bashed more times than boris. One slip and it could easily go boom

E bikes should be liable to an mot just like motor bikes.

Good. Sooner or later people will die because this.

I’m a cyclist but what with the recent news about these things starting fires and blocking train carriages, on top of having seen them racing down the wrong side of the road/almost hitting pedestrians, these bikes and the people riding them are fucking dangerous and I honestly wouldn’t be opposed to a blanket ban at this point. Is it even legal to be riding around at 30mph+ on what is essentially a motorbike without a licence?

Or we need better licensing and kite marking. I bet it was a cheap chinese knock-off.

the extra execitement causd by e-bike fires is the type of vest so called ‘Underground’ workers should be grateful for.
“darling, at work today there was a fire, and I rushed to the rescue!”
think how bland the conversation would be otherwise!

Without being too oppressive.
Any e.bikes with over a certain battery sizes needs to have license and Mot equivalent.
You wouldn’t let it on a plane. Why into a crowded tube train, underground in a tunnel.

E-bikes are only going to get more and more similar to normal bikes. Does [this look like an e-bike](https://www.specialized.com/us/en/turbo-vado-sl-40/p/216532?color=348469-216532) at first glance?
