Good thing the Department of Defense is, check notes, concerned about gender identity and not you know, keeping up.

  3. Soon we’ll finally fulfill the dream of no GPS/Satellites in space ever again due to cascading debri

Seems like that whole Space Force thing was a decent idea after all huh?

Reddit clowns probably memory-holed that news cycle though.

  6. Interesting. Can’t say I had dogfighting satellites on my 2025 bingo card. I had not considered this development!

Weapon, US: the arsenal of democracy, defends world peace, cool thing

Weapon, China: threatens global stability, stolen tech, will doom everyone

  8. I get that the Biblical book of Revelations didn’t exactly predict this… but it kinda fucking predicted this. I find it hilarious. We gonna do exactly what was predicted of us.

  9. Kessler syndrome speedrun any% anyone? pretty sure there are laws against thus for a very good reason…

  10. Every time a particular section of the department of defense needs a funding boost, China are suddenly miles ahead in that area.

This is how we get satellite laser grids around Earth like in Cowboy Bebop.

We do not want this lol

I was thinking about this the other day. I was reading a comic called transmetropolitan, and in it they referenced pirate satellites, and that made me think, what if one day it became cheap enough for private individuals to put small satellites in orbit.

And then I wondered if this could apply to satellite warfare, where there are specialized satellites that take down other satellites.

But in reality, I feel like it’s a terrible idea to put so much trash in space, and to have dogfights and leave debris in orbit, as it could cause a cascading effect that leaves us stuck under carpets of high speed debris fields.
