Maybe an unpopular opinion, but does it really make much sense to make 12 people put their life on hold for a year, when the coroner essentially said the verdict will have little meaning? It’s fine if you’re retired, unemployed, idle etc. but if you are working or a parent or a student, that is a big inconvenience.
Why can’t the coroner determine themselves what the cause of death was? Like juries make sense for a criminal trial, where it’s someone’s freedom at stake and you need neutral people to make the decision. A coroner themselves should be able to make the decision.
It would be like getting a jury of random people to make a medical diagnosis instead of a doctor.
A year is far too long as well. Were there delays here? The longest murder trial in UK history (Lucy Letby trial) was only 10 months.

What’s the point of this forty years later?
