Thought the Tories were going to end child poverty I seriously had enough of this country and it’s BS politics.

“A household is considered to be in relative poverty if it is below 60 per cent of the median income after housing costs.”
We need more housing and not get ourselves off that a house has gone up 4.5% in price.

I look forward to this getting as much coverage in the media as the WFA removal received.

Why do poor families deserve incentives to grow their families, and other people don’t?
Why do we have a situation where a third child born in poverty is considered more important to society than a surgeon’s second baby?
We’re all tightening our belts. We all make decisions based on our resources (or we should). More than two children is an absolute luxury for most people.

While I agree children living in poverty is a terrible issue (having grown up my entire childhood in that situation) I think it really needs to be looked at why people on low/no income continue to have so many children that they clearly cannot afford.
I wouldn’t dream of bringing a child into an impoverished household, and have specifically held off starting a family until we are better funded to properly do so. I do think that some parents should hold some accountability for these numbers increasing as much as they do.
Obviously there will be the cases where existing families have fell on hard times and fell into this bracket, but I’m specifically talking about adults who are no where near able to fund a child and yet still have them.

Slashing benefits has really helped that number grow, a few more cuts and the UK might be able to get up to 6 million if they’re lucky! Always plenty of extra money to waste of weapons of death, I’m sure the poor are thankful for that while they sit starving and freezing in their black mould infested not fit for human habitation house…..

That’s not going to help long term growth, it’s quite sickening to see this continuous stream of disaster politics coming from parliament. No matter which party is elected, the results are the same.

I tried to get some information on the figures:
>
A single adult is considered to be in relative poverty, based on the 60% of median income figure, if, after housing costs, they have less than ÂŁ255 per week. Housing costs do not include council tax, gas/electric etc. A couple with two children would be ÂŁ530 per week.

Edit: It also doesn’t include mortgage payments in housing costs – only interest on those payments,

People will complain that people on poverty should not be having kids. While true, we should turn our backs on those kids who find themselves growing up in poverty at the same time; they did not ask for this. We also need to ask why do many people are in poverty generally and resolved to actually do something about it. Blaming people has been the main strategy under the Tories and by the media. That has clearly not worked so it might be time to try something new that actually helps people, otherwise more people and more children will just slip into this group.

If we force MP’s to get rid of their 2nd homes paid for by us and made them stay in a basic hotel when in London we could save around £10 million a year…. We start there imo

Could it be that some of the poorest families in the country are having relatively more children than the middle classes? This would by default mean that more children were born into relative poverty

It’s horrible kids are going through this but where the hell is the parental responsibility in all of this?

It’s genuinely bleak in this country and has been for all of my teenage and adult years. I’m 30 next year and I just can’t see things getting any better. We’re basically surviving each day, can hardly call it living.

I’m sure removing benefits will help 👍Â
Maybe we can even get to 5 or 6 million 🥳Â
