Pro tip: if you never want to hear from the JW missionaries again, just tell them that your best friend who was disfellowshipped told you all about what their religion really stands for.
They’ll fuck right off. (Thanks to my best friend who was disfellowshipped for telling me that!)

Thanks.
Is there any chance you could add atheist to this this?

This is by a strange combination of religion and race, not by religion.

JW’s don’t vote… **period.**
They don’t vote in support of or against any politician or for any laws.
Their opinions have never been part of the equation for the support of laws or policies for or against gay marriage.

For what it’s worth, the only listed religions which support same-sex marriage by dogma are Unitarians & some Mainline Protestants (e.g. TEC, ECLA, UMC)

I’d be interested to see the different flavours of Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism split out in the same way that Christianity is split up into eight different groups. It seems strange to break one tradition up into eight groupings but leave the other traditions as big, single buckets, allowing the extremes to potentially polarise/skew the numbers.
I’m assuming this is driven/limited by Western/Christian-centric sample or data collection design though…

Isn’t it fortunate then that the separation of church & state is enshrined in the constitution & vociferously defended by the courts /s

As someone raised catholic, why are “white” and “hispanic” catholics considered different religions?
They’re meant to be a single church no?

I wonder what the margin of error on this is. I was raised Unitarian Universalist and, as funny as it may sound, 7% being against same sex marriage seems extremely high.

I’d love to see this broken down further by age ranges. Like, younger Muslims would support far more than older Muslims.

As time goes on, the more that phrase starts to bug me. “Support for same-sex marriage” like we’re discussing a rational disagreement on which sport team we like more, and not human rights.
These are the percentages of these communities that recognize human rights are for everyone.
And it’s equally concerning that there’s such a high percentage in these groups that believe that human dignity and rights should not extend to everyone, and want to take them away.

Who are the 7% of close minded Unitarian universalists? What’s their deal? Are they like, “yeah whatever religion you believe is fine because they’re all the same thing and just be good to one another but definitely don’t be gay. That’s our one rule. We don’t care if you worship Jesus or not, we don’t care if you worship Buddha or not or worship anybody or nobody at all. Nothing matters except the gay thing. Here I draw the line.”
