If we start importing US meat and dairy, I’m going 100% vegan. Simple.

The rates of food poisioning, deaths as a result of stuff that shouldn’t be in food (toxins, literal shit, metal, plastic, etc), and rates of diseases such as cancer as a result of the food Americans eat is too much of a risk for me to quantify putting anything that would otherwise be deemed biohazardous waste in my gob.

Part of the deal with the Americans will include removing of labeling schemes so we can’t tell where meat comes from to prevent “unfair competition” (its what the US tried last time) so no-one here should be using that old chestnut as an excuse for “simply avoiding it if we don’t want it”.

If we have to accept their meat, consider ALL meat contaminated unless otherwise labelled as such.

Not had anyone explain to me yet why someone here would buy it. Have you seen the outrageous prices for chicken in the US? How are they going to manage to produce it at a price low enough that its even a viable product then ship it here to try and sell? We already produce it extremely cheaply.

Why can’t we just ensure it’s labelled? If people want to eat garbage it’s hard to stop them. People who care about this aren’t the sort to buy it. There’s a clear difference in quality, so even if you accidentally buy American meat you’ll soon learn what to avoid. If it’s the difference between a free trade and they’ll keep their mitts off NHS procurement, fine.

I don’t want anything from that backwards orange con man. Any politician who remotely backs him or his party right now can fuck off

    5. I don’t see the problem. Just allow it in and label it “not fit for human consumption “. Problem
      Solved.

The fact we have to even write a petition for this shows how low our government has gone! It should be a given.

    7. The petition is completely meaningless as it isn’t on the government petition site.

I know there’s a lot of misinformation out there about US life expectancy. I think it’s important to understand because it correlates to what the UK should import and what should be banned.

Im in a hcol urban coastal city where the life expectancy is 82 years. There’s always labeling on foods. The state bans certain ingredients too. Yes there’s a huge emphasis on hiking and exercise too.

My point being don’t just take federal standards in the trade deal. Look to individual states and their outcomes.

    9. So the return of the local butcher then?
I guess Muslims will be fine since they only eat halal meat which I can’t imagine American meat would be considered as .
