  1. But…but Yvette Cooper said they’d smash the gangs last August??

Labour are actively doing sweet fa to stop this illegal activity that’s now a national security issue and a serious threat to the safety of women and girls.

  2. *Figures are up 42% compared with this time last year.*

Maybe talk of the Rwanda plan did have a positive effect last year?

  3. We need measures that we won’t be able to stomach (even though these measures will still be humane) because hiring more British workers, training them and paying them more won’t be an option because they don’t want to pony up the cash.

Look at Germany/CDU, talk this big game about anti-immigration and guess what they did? They changed their fucking tune in the opposite direction and they wonder why Nazi AfD are now **leading** in the polls over there.

You should be scared more of your own people, not the fucking economy do or be dammed, because most of the country is really starting to lose their patience.

Mass immigration > Suppressed wage growth and worse job prospects and much higher competition for British people > Worse living conditions and treatment > Discontent and anger **(we are here)** > Fascism.

  4. It’s funny that it’s the boats that are the breaking point for some people. The boats are the tip of the iceberg compared to the number of illegals coming in via the Channel Tunnel on the back of HGVs (which is allot harder to spot than an escorted dingy).

We have a serious problem and the boats barely scratch the surface.

The problem is illegal migrants in the UK can claim asylum, which creates a huge incentive for economic migrants to get to the UK and immediately file an asylum claim, because it triggers a whole cascade of legal entitlements and protections including free accommodation.

I do think the UK has a moral responsibility to bring in refugees, but that a new model is needed. One where the UK only brings in refugees that it has vetted and selected from refugee camps around the world, prioritising for vulnerability, with a yearly quota of a set number such as 5,000 a year so we can plan around it

The status quo selects for relatively wealthy economic migrants who can afford the smugglers’. For example how can a pregnant, 17-year-old illiterate girl fleeing tribal violence in the mountains of Papua New Guinea get to Calais when she has no money? There are so many refugees like this around the world who are just completely stuck and neglected by the current setup

  6. This is going to go up with people fleeing Sudan and Gaza on the increase. Hopefully Syria will keep it together or a lot of refugees from there will be heading Europe way.

The only way to deal with this is to make it so people don’t want to leave their home countries in the first place. Most of these migrants are not the poorest of the poor in their country, they’re the better off middle class who can afford to escape. Would be doing fine in their own country if it hadn’t been wrecked by war/famine whatever.

Unfortunately nobody wants to spend serious money or send in the military to help out failing countries.

Does anyone know why we won’t change the UK rules to allow asylum seekers to apply for asylum from overseas? I do understand some of the reasons why not I.e. more will apply, difficult to manage without people in situ etc But would it be worth a go?

  8. I don’t wanna harm anyone but how is it that countries have been protecting their borders for the last few thousand years?

Is there an option of shooting down these boats. You shoot a few boats the other automatically stop. Don’t shoot the people just the boats. 3 news articles and it’s sorted. Swim your way across if you’re so keen.

“Twelve boats brought 705 migrants across the Channel and into Dover on Tuesday – the highest daily figure so far this year.”

Are those 12 boats all the navy and the RNLI boats? If I brought over a boat full of migrants I would be charged with trafficking, but the forces we pay to stop this would hapily take them off my boat and taxi them over here instead. Charge them with human trafficking, seize their boats instead and it’ll do more to stop the problem.

A drone with a sharp stick taped to it taped to it could stop more inflatable boats than our entire navy, coastguard, border force, customs etc

No matter who you vote for, this will continue because the political class wants this to continue. The only solution is to get out of the refugee conventions which clearly did not stand the test of time. Instead, you see politicians intentionally wasting time and money trying out solutions which they themselves know won’t work just so that they could pretend like they want to solve the problem.

  11. Some absolutely insane comments in here. Sounds like some sort of Nazi rally tbh.

Suggesting we shoot migrants or tie them up and leave them on a beach is appalling

Redditors would rather die and collapse civilization itself than survive via any method that could be deemed mildly aggressive.

    so here’s a hypothetical mental exercise….

should the navy be allowed to sink any unidentified vessel in the channel?

if so, would that not be an absolute deterrent to cross the water in this manner?

[answers are weighted as 10 out 15 points in this examination, hypothetically…]

  14. If Labour don’t do anything about it then Reform will win sadly. And all our public services will be sold to American oligarchs.

  15. SluttyNerevar on

Let’s ignore the continuous upward-transfer of wealth and every politician trying to sell us to the yanks. There are some scary browns on leaky boats trying to claim asylum. Look at this. Only this. Maybe the trans-menace, but definitely don’t look at the rich people.

When it raises 10 million more and it becomes more of a shitshow here. When is enough for you clowns defending this bs?

  17. GreatBritishHedgehog on

All we need to do is stop allowing people to claim asylum if they turn up illegally

There will is zero reason why it can’t be done abroad or online

But if you turn up illegally, you should be treated as a criminal and detained. Not given hotel accommodation and free food while you ride for Deliveroo
