Does that specifically worded category technically include beer?

I switched to oat milk and something weird happened. I started to be able to smell a slight whiff of cowpats in normal milk. Thankfully it didn’t affect cheese and yogurt.

Califia Oat milk in the blue carton is so, so good!
Perfect sweetness and depth for a coffee that I don’t need sugar
Cow’s milk for me tea, though!

Better in coffee than cow milk tbh – doesn’t bind away the bitterness, just kind of harmonizes w it

Oat milk tastes better than dairy in a cappuccino to me, and it also tastes better with my muesli.

Oatley is still my favourite. Glad to have finally found a dairy alternative that I like.

It’s the best tolerated alternative for milk protein allergy, cmpa is growing, so in part this makes sense.
All of our kids have it (along with other allergies), so we just gradually switched to oat milk instead. Not great in tea, not bad in coffee.

I find it kinda dystopian that you can’t call Oat Milk “milk” and have to call it “Oat Drink”. Remember when they said we can’t do that because of EU regs? Well we kept that one. Why? Because the Dairy Industry doesn’t want us calling something not made from a fucking mammal “Milk”.
In Afghanistan you’re not allowed to see the Leader of the Country’s Face. In Russia you’re not allowed to call the War in Ukraine a War. In China, you’re not allowed to use the words “Internet Maintenance Day”. In the UK, you’re not allowed to call Opaque liquid you put in your tea or coffee “Oat Milk” because the people who make money from Cow juice think it’ll cut into their profits. Ferengi Shit.

Not a big fan. It’s alright in brews, but I’m not switching away from drinking cow’s milk in a hurry.
If I had to pick one, soya would probably be my preference.
Lord_Ghirahim93 on
Personally I love oat milk in coffee but I opt for soy milk in things like porridge. It doesn’t taste as good but nutritionally it’s much more robust.
Both those taste good, but almond milk I do not like, and I’ve never tried any of the weirder (and often more expensive) ones like rice, cashew, hazelnut, pea etc.
As for cow’s milk, I can’t even remember what it tasted like as it’s been so many years since I learned of the cruelty and exploitation in the dairy industry and swore off the stuff. Smells rank though.

I can’t stand it personally, unsweetened Soya milk is nicest for me.

Cow milk fucks my guts and makes me really drowsy for about 3 hours. I prefer the taste of Oat milk over Soy milk. And seems to be gentler on my digestive system.
Oatmilk ftw!

I bought myself £40 milk maker and now I can make “Oat milk” at home just with tap water and few spoons of rolled oats. It’s much cheaper than buying / maintaining a cow👍
Kitchen_Cow_5550 on
Should have been soy milk. Very cheap and has no sugars and as much protein as cow’s milk. Oat milk has lots of carbs and sugars and basically no protein

One day we’ll have this headline but with plant milks replacing dairy milk..
Choose to ruthlessly exploit plants for your tea/cereal, not lactating mothers

My favourite is Alpro Barista Coconut – it’s nice, foams, and works incredibly well as natural anti acid (after big meals, spicy food etc). All the oat, almonds etc just don’t work that well, not even normal milk.

Big oat milk fan but is there really more oat milk sold that orange juice?

If anyone is looking for a decent oat milk that frothes easily for their coffees, ‘Moma Barista Oat Drink’ and ‘Califia Oat Milk Barista’ are my recommendations

It’s definitely better in coffee than actual milk, and a mile nicer than any other plant based milk.
You can’t really drink a glass of it on its own though and I would not be able to have it with cereal.
Someone suggested porridge i’ll give that a go.
IDK about baking with it.

I’m not keen on oat milk – genuinely tastes like blended hobnobs. I like almond milk, though! Makes a good milkshake, too.

Good, people need to wake up and stop drinking soya milk.
JBWalker1 on
Try soya milk. I think its the second most nutritious but it takes better, is cheap, and looks like cows milk when used in tea.
Its also high in protein for people that care. Alpro does a soya protein drink which has as much protein as actual protein shakes but it’s very smooth and good tasting without needing to be loaded with sugar. Can get a 1L bottle for £1.50 and 500ml has like 25g of protein. I’m suprised they aren’t targeting a version of it as a fitness and gym drink, would sell a lot and improve their brand with a new market of people.

It should be illegal to call it “milk”, it’s not a milk.

I’ve never liked regular milk, I’ve tried coconut, almond and soy… All absolutely disgusting, coconut in particular overwhelms the taste of anything you combine it with. Oat milk tastes of very little, so given I just want something that’ll moisten my cereal, it’s perfect.
Bones_and_Tomes on
Oat milk is just slightly more complicated sugar water, so bear that in mind if you’re into healthy eating/drinking. Almond milk is better for you in general. Personally I drink coffee black anyway, so you do you boo

Been drinking Oat milk for a few years now, for me it’s the most like regular milk but without that strong aftertaste that lingers in your mouth.

Much better than artificially inseminating the cows so they produce the milk and then dragging their offspring away, I’ll never forget that noise

The slight sweetness of Oat Milk means I no longer need sugar in my tea!

Can’t stand Soy Milk, Almond is ok (but very variable between brands), I’ve tried Rice milk and I don’t mind it. Hazelnut milk is ‘situational’.

So why are we paying 40-60p extra for it in a coffee
