I’m Girish, a molecular‑biologist‑turned‑YouTuber.

My new 9‑min explainer digs into Colossal Biosciences’ plan to gene‑edit the dire wolf back into existence.

Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SuS3RFwxcM&ab_channel=girishkaitholil

Highlights:

• Sequencing 13,000‑year‑old DNA from tar‑pit fossils

• Swapping dire‑wolf alleles into modern grey‑wolf embryos via CRISPR‑HDR

• The “designer hybrid” argument vs. true resurrection

• Ecological upsides and catastrophic what‑ifs

I’d love your take:

  1. Should reviving extinct apex predators ever be on the table?
  2. Does this distract from protecting today’s endangered carnivores?

CRISPR startup wants to bring the Dire Wolf back—future of conservation or Jurassic Park 2.0?

  1. Sadly, Trump wants to re-evaluate endangered species protections because he thinks have the technology to bring them back if they go extinct.

  2. Duke-of-Dogs on

Keeping a large therapod in a cage is no more dangerous than an elephant or hippo. Jurassic park was more a lesson in the dangers of under paying the one employee running your billion dollar empire than it was about actual genetics.

It *might* distract the general public but they’re already way too busy consuming the throw away goods destroying our planet to give a shit
