Easier to set on fire than a hotel, so maybe a winning policy for the hardcore Reformers.

  2. ClacksInTheSky on

She complained to Lewis Goodall on LBC that we… _feed_ them.

    What a dick.

Again conflating illegal immigrants and asylum seekers. The *illegal* people in this country won’t follow any rule you put in place.

  4. YammyStoob on

I know this is just a dog whistle for her, but it would cost as much to set up and maintain a site with proper infrastructure to support people, take away rubbish, provide laundry facilities, kitchens, etc, as it does to just rent rooms in hotels that already have all that.

She’s fucking awful. She’s always been fucking awful, she’ll always be fucking awful. Completely irredeemable.

  6. I don’t think Lincolnshire has any asylum hotels any more? Maybe one? But then this is the woman that called for Lincolnshire Council to scrap its DEI officers. When it didn’t have any.

It’s good enough for France and many other countries around the world

Maybe converted shipping containers rather than tents, but I think she speaks for the silent majority.

To be fair the weathers great. Add a beach ball and a paddling pool and it will be lovely.

  10. It would be the sensible move. Unfortunately sensible rarely comes into conversations in the UK about illegal immigration.

I’m fully expecting this comment section to be full of people insulting her, whilst completely failing to justify the continued use of hotels.

All this, and she was still voted in, my faith in people is seriously dented.

The farce was where we were told barracks were not good enough accomodation for migrants. Barracks formerly used by our troops.

There are plenty of derelict airfields across the country conveniently with runways. Build tent complexes there and fly them back home. You should not be able to claim asylum by flouting the law of the country you want to stay in.

All for proper schemes like Ukraine, Hong Kong.

  13. MidlandPark on

Sure, Lincolnshire has lots of green, flat land, perfect for pitching a town of tents

I did laugh when a reporter tried to ‘gotcha’ Farage by asking if he agreed with his new mayor that illegal immigrants should be put in tents, and Farage just said ‘No I am much more hardline than that and I want them all deported’..

Reporter didn’t know what to say back. Was pretty funny.

  15. Reform are gonna be linked to a farmer whose gonna be rich from being paid to use his land for these tents aren’t they.

  16. Illegal immigrants in the UK are those who arrived on a valid visa and overstay. These far outnumber asylum seekers.

  17. LegendaryArmalol on

Actually I think politicians should have to live in the same conditions as the lowest in our society, so they have a reason to improve things.

But to make it fair, she can at least have a tent.

And that’s all you need to know about reform and conservatives, fucking appalling people

  19. Spamgrenade on

Now you have people complaining about fields full of asylum seeker tents rather than the hotels. Also have to deal with a whole load of new logistical issues, for example toilets. UK climate is not really suited to tent cities at the best of times (think Glastonbury). In the autumn its going to be a sea of mud.

Just the reminder that the year before we left the EU in 2019 the number of people who crossed the channel in small boats was 1,843.

The year after it was 28,526.

Total asylum applications have close to tripled since leaving the EU-

Yet for some reason we’re meant to believe the very people who caused this situation are the ones with the solution…

  21. It is important to remember she was a part of the Conservative government that chose to make this issue worse for political point scoring.

  22. Carbonatic on

Tent cities don’t sound as safe for the local community as repurposing old hotels as migrant processing facilities.

  23. Bulky_Community_6781 on

You know what’s a good idea? Grant them citizenship on the condition that they work for the council.

  24. Like some sort of big….camp? Where we could…. concentrate them all in one place?

  25. kingbongtherover on

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. I don’t wanna be paying for these dudes’ hotels/houses. But if I have to I want them to get the bare minimum

  26. After-Dentist-2480 on

Andrea Jenkyns wants them housed in tents because they’re easier than hotels for her supporters to set fire to.

  27. NGeoTeacher on

She’s such a spiteful individual with a dangerous level of ignorance about how anything actually works.

Whatever your opinions about this (complex, multifaceted, global) issue, at the heart of it are humans, many of whom have come from pretty desperate circumstances. So many people use such dehumanising language and it’s just downright nasty.

No, tent accommodation is not suitable in the UK. It might be during the summer, but come winter, not so much.

Want to fix the issue? Fix the broken asylum system and make political decisions on a national level that doesn’t end up contributing to destabilising entire countries and regions.

Why is the UK going Trumpy? Don’t do it. Can confirm, it sucks

  29. AlwaysSnacking22 on

They need to convince people that immigrants are more of a risk to them than the loss of the NHS.

And it seems to be working, which is insane.
