I like Greece and was looking in this area and found some chill villages. Does this place have a name? Im hoping not just Didymoteicho or Orestiada, but a distinct name for this entire area.

    Thank you!

That’s where I served 😂 someone else mentioned Gatzolia and it is indeed the nickname I was taught as well

It doesn’t really have a name, some people call it Triethnes (three nations), because it’s where Greece Bulgaria and Turkey meet. It’s not really accurate though

    3. The most common one is Triethnes Evrou as another commenter said above. North Evros or “The Pin” would be a couple others.

source: my village is a bit after Orestiada

    4. It’s actually know as “triethnes” – or else, three nations – I indeed served in the army up there, like 20 years ago.

    5. The whole orange area is called Thrace(Θράκη).

The right half is Evros Prefecture(Νομός Εύρου).

The top part of this prefecture is the Municipality of Orestiada(Δήμος Ορεστιάδας).

Triethnes or “The Pin”. The northernmost part between the Arda and Evros rivers is known as the Triangle.

Thrace(νόμος Έβρου)is where you are pointing, it is probably Orestiada, Soufli, Soufli has a museum with silk.Region Evros.

A lot of people, especially those who served in the military there (like myself) call it “Τριεθνές” (Trin-nation).

No, we don’t use any particular name or nickname for the area. North Evros is what used. Also Gatzolia is just a local dialect word used by the locals, not related with the military etc. My village is from there

    10. Well… as you may have expected, yes and no.
As with many things in Greece, it’s complicated.

The entire yellow region is known as Eastern Macedonia and Thrace,

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Macedonia_and_Thrace

The names in the red circle are towns that belong to what was known as the prefecture of Evros. Now a regional unit with the same name.
(Evros is a river and the border between Greece and Turkey.)

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evros_(regional_unit)

That sub-region you have encircled is now called Orestiada.

They used to be seaparate municipalities and villages but Greece got reorganized over the last couple of decades since the late 90s with the more recent reorganization being “Kallikratis”.
