    > The 5km run being held in London’s Victoria Park, billed as “inclusive” and “family-friendly”, is only open to men and girls under the age of 12.

So it’s in breach of the equality act, excluding women and reinforcing archaic ideals of how women should (or shouldn’t) exist in public.

The mosque claims it’s ok because single gender events exist, except this isn’t a single gender event. It’s a “no women allowed, just underage girls” event which is decidedly different and…not a good look

    It’s weird.

What’s the implication? Women can’t run, but young girls can. At what age do they think girls should stop running, apparently over 12, which is around the time puberty begins.

It gives some insight on the organisers’ views of womenhood and gender expectations.

Did no one stop for one moment to think how this would look to the general public 🤦‍♀️

  4. I’m going to be honest but I’m not sure I see any real issue here.

I know what people are getting at with why is it only men and girls under 11/12, but if this was a daddies/male carer and child race at a school sports day it would be the same adult men and young children, of which a decent proportion would be girls.

I think there are many aspects of Islam, and other religions, that are worthy of criticism, but I feel like people are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill with this one.

  5. From the event’s website:

“Our inclusive atmosphere ensures that every individual, from the youngest to the oldest, can take part and make a difference.”

This tells you what the organisers think of women, as they are clearly not considered individuals in this statement.

You have to be a fragile little man to feel that threatened by adult women taking part in anything and constantly pushing them down
