Yes it’s me, I misplaced 1.1 billion barrels last week.
I think it’s absolutely criminal that we’re not continuing to exploit this resource. We’ll still need oil and gas for some decades and it’s better if it’s done within our own ‘shores’ as it were where safety and environmental standards are higher, providing skilled jobs and resilience to our supply chains.
Sounds like a lot, but is actually only about 2 years worth for the UK
For the sake of global warming we should ignore it and continue to import it from other countries.
Time to set up that sovereign wealth fund that they should have done in the eighties instead of thatcher selling it all off to buy tax cuts for her rich cronies.

Prospective resources in mapped leads and prospects: 4.6 billion boe, up 31 percent from 3.5 billion boe at end 2023.
That 1.1 billion increase reflects updated mapping and licensing, not new discoveries.
How much is that compared to global supply. Like how long would it last if it was being tapped today?

We should leave it untill we need it. Granted it isn’t that much anyway, but in 50 years i bet it would be worth alot more.

I read a news report implying that OPEC+ are trying to kill the shale oil industry in the US by lowering the price of oil. Isn’t that one of the real limitations here?

What’s derived from oil is very important,along with the employment,higher paid,high skilled jobs NI & tax paid into the exchequer. Yes wind, solar,nuclear and hydrogen are cleaner but can’t function without what’s derived from oil in their functioning operations. We are getting there too slowly for some but we are working it out.
Global oil production is like 100M barrels per day. We can power the World for another 10 days
