Have been travelling outside of Melbourne and had the luck of eating at a “sushi/noodle” place in Mt Gambier. It isn’t authentic food by any means, Aussie style cantonese is perhaps how I’d describe it? Similar to a British Chinese.

Either way, it absolutely hit the spot and is what I had been craving since moving here.

Are there any places in central Melbourne that do this type of food? Plenty of pho places, or more authentic Chinese (not that I have been) but yet to find an “Aussie” Chinese meal like this.

Thanks

  1. You can find a classic 2x dishes + rice in most city food courts

Crown Casino food court also has a few options

    Absolutely heaven when hung over

  2. Isn’t this the sort of food you’d normally get in a food court? (or at least could circa 2000-2020)

Jun Bo at Highpoint food court. Has been there for, by my estimation, 30+ years.

  5. You mean exotic honey chicken and special fried rice? Try and track down one of these hard to find “food courts” I’ve heard so much about – you might need to book. They often do a fusion pork dish that is both sweet AND sour – can you believe it!!!! Those inscrutable Chinese!

  6. Big Bowl Kitchen was so good the last couple of times I’ve had it, I think there are multiple outlets

Deadset any shopping centre food court take your pick. The one next to coffee club at Northland goes hard for what it is.
