I feel like Streeting would be even more unpopular than Starmer, so I’m not sure why he is bothering to run. Especially considering he’s extremely likely to be booted out of his seat in the next GE. It would be a disaster for him to run

Can’t wait for his leadership attempt to fail. Streeting thinks he’s bigger than he actually is.

I’m quite surprised how little self awareness he has to not realise how deeply unliked he is.

Starmer’s look of bland indifference in that picture, is both the appropriate reaction and the correct meme.

Government quietly posting economic and health wins on the same day and this twerp puts his misguided personal ambition over everything to undermine it all.

If he triggers a leadership contest I hope he falls flat on his face. Don’t forget he is directly a friend of Mandelson and was on the camp pushing for him to get the job.

They’re only screwing themselves over, the public are no more favourable towards Streeting than Starmer. What are they going to do when Streeting also does shit in the local elections? Another leadership contest? You’re just signing your parties death warrant at that point, it’s worse than just staying course and makes the party look ridiculous. They’re not popular now but we’re far from the floor if they keep acting like this.

Good riddance, Streeting. The last thing the country needs is yet another change of leadership and if Streeting is too daft to see that then it’s a relief that he has gone.
Barkasia on
Most leadership bids either require undeniable appetite for change, a leader at the absolute nadir of their popularity, or a challenger at the absolute zenith of theirs. I’m not sure this scenario features any of the three, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this all blow over after a few more rats jump ship.

Streeting can get in the bin, say what you will about Starmer but he’s far more preferable than Streeting
ChampionOk4044 on
Either way I think this will be bad, even if Starmer wins he will need to select a new health secretary and knowing Starmer whoever it is will spend months in the media for some minor controversial issue, like a tweet, being non british or whatever.
Starmer has to both win and choose his replacement wisely, which given the Burnham mess he probably won’t
EDIT, imagine its Rayner lol

Given his active disdain for doctors, his history of lying, his pet store incident, and his Mandelson texts, he surely can’t be considered.
Then again the media love Farage who had an even worse record so who knows

I don’t personally think Starmer should go at all, but if party members truly think he’s not the man to lead them, in what way is replacing him with Streeting going to give any type of improvement.
Burnham I get he’s more of a populist who will probably enjoy more support after speeches etc (although I expect come the next election the press will of done enough to turn most against him), but Streeting really?

I would say I feel sorry for Starmer but him pandering to the right of the party was always going to end badly.
They sabotaged Blair, helped tanked Brown and Ed’s image, sabotaged Corbyn and now they’re tryna coup power from Starmer.
Streeting dosent realise how much he is despised by people for the charlatan he is, he’s vastly overestimating himself.
