      Instead of Indonesian, we could’ve had Dutch on this list

      Indonesian and Malay should really be one language.

      Also, Hindi and Urdu aren’t even considered different languages or dialects, linguists consider them registers of the same language, Hindustani. A register is like how we use formal speech in a workplace environment, which explains the difference in vocabulary between the two (as context guides whether to use more Arabic/Persian words or more Indo Aryan ones).

      Lastly, MSA is taught to Arabic speakers, with local dialects really being more used in speech. The designation as just second speakers doesn’t really feel super salient.

      Seeing Urdu on the list reminded me of when Obama said he had many Urdu poems he loved. lol
